Expo 70 / Beguiled Entropy / Vinyl LP / Blackest Rainbow / BRR243

Picture of Beguiled Entropy
Expo '70 has garnered a great deal of notoriety over the last few years in certain circles in which the moniker is usually mentioned to describe types of cross-genres. After completing a couple US tours and a handful of limited releases and re-releases in 2010, a short hiatus was in order. During this time last year Justin Wright, sole operator of the project, recorded tracks for an upcoming release. Wright entered a basement studio and improvised over two nights layered recordings for the first time in several months. A track from this session was released earlier this year as the title track for Sound of Cobra's "Hovering Resonance" one-sided limited LP. That song did not take up the full record and Wright returned to the studio with his current 3 piece line-up to record "Moon Raga", a more eastern-sounding influenced exploration. The edition of 200 hand silk screen covers which disappeared extremely fast. The remainder of the solo session is collected here as one full album entitled "Beguiled Entropy", which explores more fidelity in sounds and texture than "Hovering Resonance". Soft synthesizer creeps along to explorations dominated by drifting melodic guitar leads, quickly shifting in textural atmospheres. As "Beguiled Entropy" is flipped to side B, the narratives drop and a more driving synth line bridges a rising pulse that takes the steering wheel in to a more cosmic psychedelic territory, adding analog drum machines leading the listener deeper into a trance-like state. This release coincides with Expo 70's first European tour in September 2012. Mastered by James Plotkin. Released in an edition of 400 copies on 180 gram black virgin vinyl. Blackest Rainbow.

Cam Deas, Jack Allett / Outgrowing The Wretched Cradle / Vinyl LP / Blackest Rainbow / BRR221

Picture of Outgrowing The Wretched Cradle
A wild new collaboration from long time touring partners and Blackest Rainbow buddies Deas & Allett. The record comprises of two side long pieces both with the same approach in terms of playing; Deas plays guitar pulling together his classical sound and his stunning recent experimental approach from his Quadtych releases while Allett does live manipulations, taking advantage of his long experience as one half of Towering Breaker. Deas and Allett seem to consistently push there work to new levels and sounds, and once again with this record, they do just that, two sounds colliding making something between experimental guitar music, electronica and something on the very fringe of the avant garde. Limited to 300 copies in stunning sleeves. Blackest Rainbow Records.

'Reality Bridge' is one hell of a record, pulling together kosmische synth, guitar wailing, sci-fi insanity and b-movie bliss outs.

Gnod, A Middle Sex / Split / Vinyl LP / Blackest Rainbow / BRR 202LP

Picture of Split
Brand new split LP from fellow Manchester weirdos A Middle Sex and Gnod. Gnod follow on from some killer releases over the last couple of years, a split 7" with Bong, a tape on Not Not Fun, and most recently a collaborative LP with White Hills. The oddly titled 15 minute 'Why Don't You Smile Like The Other Children?' opens with hazy strings and cosmicly far out voices, this slow groove packs a multi-coloured burst of rhythmic psychedelic vibes. On the flip side, A Middle Sex take up duties of doing some equally psychedelic, but in a completely different style. There side is titled 'Polytheism', and is essentially made up of two tracks, the opener is a short wild spaced out cosmic synth piece, which is swiftly followed by there main 10 minute piece of layered drums and percussion, swirling electronics, distorted chanted vocals. There side is all about the rhythm, and they really got that rhythm down. Edition of 500. Pressed on 140 gram virgin vinyl and house in super glossy pro printed covers. Blackest Rainbow Records.

Twinsistermoon / When Stars Glide Through Solid / CD / Blackest Rainbow / BRR214

Picture of When Stars Glide Through Solid
Long awaited reissue of the debut release from Mehdi Amezianes (Natural Snow Buildings) Twinsistermoon project, originally released as a gorgeous handmade self released CDR in 2007, to many of Natural Snow Buildings and each of their solo project, this is the pick of all their releases, which is rather ironic being that its one of the smallest release runs in the discography of all the Natural Snow Buildings and related projects, it is infact the most limited release of all the Twinsistermoon releases. But due to the massive level of word of mouth about their releases on blogs and in the smaller press publications this release has become one of those holy grail releases. Unlessof course you have a small wedge of cash lying around doing nothing. So, finally, and with great pleasure, the much talked of reissue is finally here. The record opens with a real stunner, 'I Wish I Could Drown The World In Reverberation' is a trance inducing piece, with percussive tambourine, dreamy vocals, and shimmering strings, with a gorgeous organic rich feeling. It's followed by 'To Breath Underwater', a more pastoral folk song, akin to some late 60s/early 70s folk artists. The album as a whole focuses more on the song based material which occasionally venture into the more far out zone outs. The vinyl reissue features an entire side worth of new material, all of which is exclusive to the vinyl edition and is packaged in a beautiful gatefold sleeve featuring stunning new artwork by Solange Gularte. Limited to 600 copies. 200 direct mailorder copies on regular weight coloured vinyl, 400 copies on heavyweight black virgin vinyl. Blackest Rainbow Records.
