Angels In America / Greecings Caesar / Cassette / Phase! Records / PHR-90

Picture of Greecings Caesar
Angels in America is Moppy Pont and Merv Glisten, presumed-aliases of a New York-based duo which also performs under the Angels USA and Miami Angels In America monikers. Identity aside, Pont and Glisten have released a series of impressive limited-run cassette and vinyl titles on labels such as Northern Spy, Ehse, Night Peole, and Ecstatic Peace! There have even been "industrial"-based comparisons with Throbbing Gristle. Pont and Glisten have created a dark, goth-infected, industrial-electronic soundscape that pushes the their unique "pop" edge straight off a cliff into the abyss of a bizzare, confused, and, at times, debauched world. A haunted yet sentimental lo-fi thesis on a broken society. Released as a C60 cassette tape on the Anthens-based Phase! Records label, run by Panagiotis Spoulos (The Countlet, Κοψωκέφαλοι, Old Fashioned Donkeys, Postblue, Reverse Mouth, Wham Jah). Issued in a limited run of 100 copies, with on-body printing and screen-printed j-cards on nice thick card-stock.

Dylan Nyoukis, Phil Minton / Live In Athens / Vinyl LP / Phase! Records / PHR-95

Picture of Live In Athens
"It was in dhalgren that i had read about a father getting fired, and who trying not to depress his family about it, wakes up every day, shaves, dresses himself up, has breakfast and leaves for his "work". where does his spent his almost 8 to 10 hours? a mystery. perhaps crying on a park's bench or drinking or whatever. however, there are times when reality creates even more dystopian images than those in sam delaney's aforementioned opus... it was through such events that our interest in the human voice was brought again forward, and it was upon a discussion on the instruments that we might fancy to hear after the quake of our mechanized world, that we decided on the human voice. it was something that evolved naturally, as since the depression's outbreak, little by little we've started digging recordings of the human voice (voice as the original instrument to quote joan la barbara's classic recording). so when the idea of setting up a live set focused only on the human voice came up, the names of phil minton and dylan nyoukis were thrown on the table immediately and without hesitation we invited them for what turned out to be one the most physical and vital live sets we had set up for a looong time. a set of vocal pirouettes and juxtapositions between dylan and phil which send us flying for almost half an hour that night at the basement of knot gallery and once again fueled our enthusiasm for adventure and quest. besides this, it turned into a great opportunity for 3 fellow conceptualists (ourselves) to collaborate on something they fancied and out of their enthusiasm this document is being released." Nicolas Malevitsis, October 2012 Numbered edition of 300, w/ screenprinted covers designed and printed by MPA Designs. Phase! Records.

Nederlaget / To Feil Er Bedre Enn En Rett / Cassette / Phase! Records / PHR-96

Picture of To Feil Er Bedre Enn En Rett
New superstar death-duo by the northern sound assassins Sindre Bjerga & Lasse Marhaug. Their first proper release (so proper that has been "recorded at the best studio in Oslo", as stated in the release credits) contains 20 minutes of freezing cold electronic (non) music, which hardly restrains from exploding in your face in the most brutal way you could imagine. It is, indeed, a fine balancing act of accurate controlled power cut-ups from hands who don't need to prove anything or, at the very most, raise the middle finger. Bravely. Edition of 100 tapes w/ on-body printing housed in vividly printed photo j-cards. Phase! Records.

DJ Mistakes / Untitled / Vinyl LP / Phase! Records / PHR-81

Picture of Untitled
“DJ mistakes are two exercise bicycle driven turntables fabricated and ridden by Casey Farnum and Elliot Hess. This project re-introduces spontaneity into the DJ experience and asks how production and industry have assembled to create a listening experience quite different from the hand-cranked turntables it was initially borne from. With a shrug to the practice of crystallizing performances and their reception through vinyl and the audiophile entertainment- center this project re-introduces human touch into the listening experience. It looks back nostalgically to a time when gears and bicycles were the stuff of aural and physical revolutions. Yet it also seeks a contemporary framework in the DJ era where cutting and mixing revolutionized production making it both unpredictable and live. Bikes, turntables, gongs, a mixer, records, and a microphone all mash in this recording live from the Chicken Hut and 1086 Broadway, Brooklyn NY 2006-7.” Phil Schapp, 2011 Limited numbered edition of 200 copies on 1-sided 12”LP, offset covers on metallic paper + inners. Phase Records.
