Richard Youngs / Amaranthine / Vinyl LP / MIE Music / MIE009

Picture of Amaranthine
Limited edition of 500 LPs. MIE are delighted to be releasing the excellent Amaranthine on vinyl on the 16th January 2012. Richard is one of our favourite artists on the UK experimental scene and to release this new, singular work by the man himself is very exciting for us. Bringing rhythm to the fore, Amaranthine is built around layered percussion and Youngs' ever present vocals. The asymetrically patterned underlay is scored for drums, household objects and handheld percussion; at points scything fuzz guitar cuts through the sense of ritual with abandon and deep synths bubble up out of nowhere before dissipating into solo shakuhachi. Amaranthine is another typically atypical Youngsian release in which he ventures deep into uncharted musical space, all the while retaining his essential Youngs-ness. Officially released on 16th January 2012. MIE Music.

Alastair Galbraith / Cry / Vinyl LP / MIE Music / MIE017

Picture of Cry
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that MIE will be releasing Cry by the underground legend of New Zealand, Alastair Galbraith, for the first time on vinyl in March 2013. Cry was recorded in a shed at Taieri Mouth between 1998 and 2000 and then released by Emperor Jones on CD in 2000. Alastair has always been one of the most admired yet paradoxically ignored musicians from the New Zealand underground since he first started out in The Rip on Flying Nun Records in the early 1980s. Having already worked with the incredibly talented New Zealander otherwise known as Michael Morley, it seemed natural for MIE’s next step to go on to work with Alastair on getting one of his finest records issued for the first time on vinyl. Listening to the immensely personal and intimate Cry is like looking directly into the furthest recesses of Galbraith’s mind. Weaving the fabric of the record with guitar, violin, organ, and vulnerable murmurs, frequently reversing and inverting instruments through 4-track manipulations, Cry is at once haunting and unsettling. Alastair creates an incredibly complex mindscape with tenebrous drones, hushed lilted words and a sense of deep warmth pulling you further and further into the innermost intricacies of his world. Submerged deep within this world you start to see the faint rays of light and hope which have earned this record its place in New Zealand’s musical landscape. Issued on vinyl for the first time in a run of 500 LPs and available digitally. Original artwork by Alastair Galbraith. Mastered by Craig Stewart. MIE Music.

Birchall / Cheetham Duo / Tipping Point / CD / MIE Music / MIECDr#01

Picture of Tipping Point
‘Inner ear outer space deconstruction of rock elements resulting in a heady stew of free/drone/rockout’. MIE Music is very excited to announce the first release in its new CDr series 'TIPPING POINT' by the Birchall/Cheetham Duo. Andrew and David met when they performed as part of Rhys Chatham’s G3 ensemble in Manchester early 2011 which MIE put on. Since then they have developed a sound exploring the deconstruction of rock music within the wider context of free improvisation. Both musicians are committed to the exploration of dynamics, texture, tone and rhythm. TIPPING POINT is the culmination of endless jamming and working deep into each others psyche, delving into the dark corridors of their deconstructed improv drone-rock. "Bad teach holier mulch, a cab hum-thrilled echo, David Birchall (guitar) and Andrew Cheetham (drums) cut up some Elmore James tapes and spliced them back together all out of sequence then learned the results note-for-note, I reckon. " - Braw Gigs. Mastered by Dave Jackson, All tracks recorded August – October 2011 in The Milkroom at Hotspur House, Manchester. Released in a run of a 100 in handmade and printed covers. Cover artwork by Craig Stewart. MIE Music.

Sarin Smoke / Vent / Vinyl LP / MIE Music / MIE013

Picture of Vent
After performing at a concert in Oakland, 2010 and feeling proud of their musical output, Tom Carter (Charlambides) and Pete Swanson (Yellow Swans) decided to collaborate with one another again as a guitar duo. The resulting record amalgamates Tom's recent self-oscillating, power starved shredding psychedelia, with Pete's self proclaimed "more neanderthal attempts at VU/Roy Montgomery inspired simple melodicism". Ultimately, the album is an unusual haze of oscillator sweeps, dying batteries, ripping solos and clean(ish) two chord backbones forming a very unique angle on the possibilities that the "psychedelic rock" format could aspire towards. Tom Carter was recently on a tour with Charlambides where he developed a very serious case of Pneumonia. He has just made it back to USA after falling ill in May and is on the slow road to recovery. He unfortunately has medical bills, no job to come home to and will now require ongoing treatment in the US. His prognosis was fortunately, very positive health-wise, but he will need financial support throughout what remains of his recovery. Pete Swanson says "MIE Music and I have agreed to donate all profits from this new album to The Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust, as well as release a very limited version of the album with hand-done covers by Ilyas Ahmed that will also include an exclusive cassette of music from Sarin Smoke. This set will be priced at a premium with the intention of encouraging people with more resources to consider supporting Tom". If you would like to donate to the Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust then please head to http://helptomcarter.org/. MIE Music.
