Mad Nanna / I Hit a Wall / 7" Vinyl / Quemada Records / QUE004

Picture of I Hit a Wall
We have here the new 7inch single from Mad Nanna. Mad Nanna have quietly built up an impressive discography in a relatively short span with releases on Goaty, Eggy, Wormwood Grasshopper, and their own amazing Albert’s Basement. The A side is an anthem for the ages (by Nanna standards). It lurches and stumbles, makes strides, waltzes and wobbles but manages to stay in a relatively straight line. The B side charges headlong through the muck and rides an early 90s Port Chalmers groove. Artwork is by one Antony Riddell, a Melbourne fixture, artist, author, member of the Weave Movement Theatre and one of the the mad geniuses responsible for the under-appreciated Volvox.

Mad Nanna / I Made Blood Better / Vinyl LP / Negative Guest List Records / NGL027

Picture of I Made Blood Better
The much-anticipated vinyl LP version of Melbourne, Australia-based Mad Nanna’s “I Made Blood Better”, originally released as a limited tape cassette on the Goaty Tapes label. With releases on Goaty Tapes, Eggy Records, Wormwood Grasshopper, and Albert’s Basement, Mad Nanna’s no-method, hypnotic folk/rock jams are characterised by de-tuned guitars and “who cares” vocals, reminiscent of some early Jandek output. The vinyl LP, released on the Negative Guest List Records label, is an expanded re-working of the original Goaty Tapes title. Negative Guest List Records.

Mad Nanna / My Two Kids / 7" Vinyl / Soft Abuse / SAB057

Picture of My Two Kids
Another crucial transmission from planet Mad Nanna. This time around, Michael Zulicki & co. chug with a loose togetherness on the a-side, “My Two Kids”; one of their most charmed and straightforward tunes (that roaming refrain notwithstanding) with a touch of cosmic Velvets twinkle. On the flip, “I'm Not Coming Here”, the trio conjure Jandek and Alastair Galbraith with an elongated, lonesome and sedate jam that feels barely harnessed by those involved. Primo wayward / dishevelled rock murmurs from these Australian boys. My Two Kids is a companion release of sorts to their single on Unwucht (same tunes, diff versions), and features lettering by Raf Spielman of Eggy Records. Edition of 300. Soft Abuse.

Mad Nanna / Self-Titled / 7" Vinyl / Little Big Chief Records / LBC-001

Picture of Self-Titled
Little Big Chief is proud to announce the US pressing of Victoria, Australia's Mad Nanna's first 7" EP! After a criminally small amount of the initial press on the band's own imprint, Albert's Basement, made it to the sovereign shores, we deemed it necessary to get this in the hands of more willing participants! Comparisons to the rockier side of Shadow Ring, or a looser feeling Icky Boyfriends are apt, but this little sucker really has a feel of its own. Amatuerish in all the right ways. Hand numbered edition of 300. Mastered by Mikey Young. Little Big Chief Records.
